About Course

Course Objectives:

This course is designed to equip law students with a comprehensive understanding of family law, covering the institution of family, types of marriages, matrimonial remedies, and dissolution under various personal laws, including those of Parsis, Christians, and Muslims, as well as the Special Marriages Act. Students will gain insights into customary practices, statutory laws, and emerging trends in family structures. Additionally, the course will explore social evils, succession laws, maintenance rights, dowry-related issues, and the application of the Indian Succession Act.

Course Outcomes:

Upon completing this course, students will be able to:

  1. Recognize the nature, scope, and sources of personal laws governing different communities in India.
  2. Analyze both traditional and statutory legal systems that regulate personal matters.
  3. Develop an understanding of family law as a unifying legal framework, aiding the implementation of the Constitutional directive of a Uniform Civil Code.
