About Course

Course Objective

This course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the philosophy, structure, and functioning of the Indian Constitution. Students will explore:

  • The historical background and evolution of the Constitution.
  • The Preamble’s objectives and their significance.
  • The Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles of State Policy (DPSP), and Fundamental Duties in shaping governance.
  • The principles of constitutional supremacy, rule of law, federalism, and secularism.
  • The structure, organization, and functioning of government organs—Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary.
  • The role of judicial review, activism, and constitutional interpretation in shaping Indian law.
  • Landmark judgments that have influenced the evolution of constitutional provisions.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Analyze the historical background and salient features of the Indian Constitution.
  2. Explain the concepts of Federalism and Secularism and their impact on governance.
  3. Interpret the Preamble and its relevance in constitutional interpretation.
  4. Define “State” under Article 12 and its implications on Fundamental Rights.
  5. Examine the scope, limitations, and enforceability of Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles, and Fundamental Duties.
  6. Apply constitutional provisions related to the enforcement of Fundamental Rights through Articles 32 and 226.
